Athletic Ceremony - April 29, 2024

It is an honor and a privilege to be with you and to welcome you as we come together as a Community to celebrate the commitment and hard work of so many, and in particular, all of our student-athletes who are gathered here this evening.

As you well know, the Mission of Palmer Trinity School focuses on the full and healthy development of Mind. Body. and Spirit. Striving for excellence in all areas of life, while also maintaining a healthy balance is both the expectation and the challenge for our 800 students.

Tonight we honor those students who commit fully and passionately to that “charge” and we commend them for their dedication on the playing fields, courts, running trails, and arenas in which they strive to compete and excel.

As a former player, a lover of sports, and an “old” ex-football and basketball coach, I appreciate and believe strongly in the values and lessons that participating in Athletics develops. Whether it be the importance of striving for a goal, the discipline involved in preparation, or learning the value of good collaboration and teamwork, firmly believe that sports help teach lifelong leadership skills

As we gather here in late April and look back over this year in sports, I believe we have had GREAT SUCCESS, and not just in terms of wins and losses. And while we certainly celebrate winning a Title, capturing a Championship, achieving a “best time” or personal goal, we should be equally proud of just HOW we have “gone about our business”, so to speak...As it has been said before,

“Sports do not build character. They expose it.”

Well, I could not agree more.

In these past 10 months, I have watched you, our student-athletes, compete with grace, confidence, and commitment to a higher goal.

Your Character has been “on display”...Your efforts have not gone unnoticed.

Moreover, your School Spirit and your winning and losing with Class, have truly made an impact in the life of our School.

Today I am proud to be with you, and equally proud to celebrate these student-athletes, coaches, and Teams who, I believe, are doing things “the right way”...the Palmer Trinity Way.

I would also like to say “thank you” to ALL of our parents, our volunteers, and our supporters of the School who give so many hours and show such commitment to these Falcon teams. Your gifts of time, energy, and resources are invaluable to us, and we could not accomplish half of what we hope to achieve without your volunteer work.

To Coach Lanham, his Athletic Team, and all of our Coaches, I am most grateful for your unwavering commitment to your sport, your genuine passion for competition, and your sincere dedication to helping raise these young people the right way, and to instill in them the values of Palmer Trinity School.

Thank you, all, for partnering with us to make our Athletics program “shine”.
Congratulations once again, student-athletes…And, as always,

Go Falcons!
