Senior Spotlight: Eduardo del Rosal

Back in the 6th grade, Eddy del Rosal knew he wanted to try a spring sport, but wasn’t exactly sure which sport was best suited for him. When his former PE teacher mentioned that he had “good running form” and should try Track & Field, del Rosal figured it was worth a shot. Seven years later, del Rosal never missed a season of Track & Field and ended up joining the Cross Country team for six seasons as well. Throughout the process, aside from continually progressing, training, and setting personal record after personal record, del Rosal credits his teammates for helping him get out of his shell and comfort zone while also improving his overall confidence.

However, it has not always been a smooth road for del Rosal. He has had to overcome multiple injuries that had sidelined him for quite a bit of time, notably knee problems starting in 7th grade and a stress fracture in 10th. Through it all, del Rosal found solace in the fact that he knew he was not facing career ending injuries and that he would continue to run no matter what the future held. He stayed motivated and returned stronger than ever through each setback. Varsity Cross Country/Track & Field Coach Tammy King urges younger Falcon athletes to take a page out of del Rosal’s book. “Over the past 6 years, the most outstanding remarks I can share about Eddy, is his unique response to hard workouts and training. When the workouts get harder and faster, Eddie smiles bigger. As the races become more competitive, Eddy keeps on smiling. His approach to his coaches, teammates and daily challenges, is to do it with a smile, a great example for so many to follow.”

Looking back on his time as a Falcon, while there are many great memories, winning the Cross Country Regional Championship this year stands out as a highlight. While he may have set a personal record, it was his team’s performance that shines in his memory. “It was a new course to us, but everyone stepped up and ran a great race,” del Rosal recalls.

This week will serve as the culmination of his seven-year run as a Falcon when he participates in Palmer Trinity’s 2023 NCAA Signing Day to sign a celebratory letter at Division III’s Rose Hulman where he will continue to participate in both sports and study engineering. “The recruitment process was a very fun one, although making the decision proved to be very difficult. Ultimately, I decided on Rose Hulman because I knew I would have plenty of teammates to push me in and outside the classroom, facilities, and a very strong mechanical engineering program.”

Outside of school, del Rosal does not have much time for anything outside of his studies and training, but enjoys spending time with his friends and sailing. His favorite movie is Star Wars, favorite food is pasta, favorite band is The Beatles, and he enjoys playing the guitar in whatever additional free time he has.

Be sure to come out and support Eddy and the rest of the Track & Field program as Palmer Trinity will serve as host to the Palm League Championships on April 13th and the FHSAA District Championship on April 20th.
