The Miami Herald Silver Knight Award is one of the highest honors given to a select group of outstanding south Florida 12th grade students, who obtain a minimum 3.2 unweighted GPA, as well as contribute exemplary service to their school or community. Two major factors that contribute to nomination are consistency and lasting impact of service. However, students are also evaluated for independent thinking, creative problem solving, leadership and perseverance in overcoming challenges.
This year, six Palmer Trinity students are recognized as Silver Knight nominees:
Ben Arnold - Science
Megan Maguire - Social Science
Sarah Kotler - Vocational/Technical
Sara Ramos - World Languages
Ava-Riley Miles - General Scholarship
Tyler McCray - Business
The Silver Knight Awards program was instituted at The Miami Herald in 1959 by John S. Knight, past publisher of The Miami Herald, founder and editor emeritus of Knight-Ridder Newspapers and 1968 Pulitzer Prize winner.
