Beijing Opera House A view from the Great Wall The Summer Palace

Touching Down in Miami!

After traveling for nearly two weeks, Palmer Trinity School faculty and students return from China.

The Palmer Trinity School tour of China has come to a close and students and faculty are home, safe and sound. The school trip which covered almost 20,000 miles through air, boat, high speed train and bus travel also contained over 65 miles of walking tours throughout Hong Kong, Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Xi'an and Beijing.

Highlights include: Visiting Peak Mountain in Hong Kong, forming a partnership with the Experimental School Affiliated with the Zhuhai No. 1 High School, touring the By-Health Factory Tour in Guangzhou, seeing the ancient city wall, Terracotta Warriors and walking down Muslim Street in Xi’an and walking the Great Wall, seeing Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City and Olympic Stadiums in Beijing.

The few weeks since our return to Miami has provided a great opportunity to reflect on this journey. While some students were able to fully absorb the trip in its entirety during our travel, true reflection for the others might not come until they have arrived home and go through the many photographs and videos they took. It is also expected that their memory of the experience will also be enhanced through their dialogue with family and friends as they recap their adventure.

For me, the trip was an amazing experience of Chinese culture, history and geography.  While on the trip, I had the opportunity to room with our tour guide, Kalvin. Through our conversations, he was able to provide me with a greater understanding of the people and culture of China. He proved to be a great ambassador for us and allowed us to learn a great deal along the way. I know I will look back fondly on the travel experience and I certainly look forward to another “Life in the Middle” adventure.
