Ring the Victory Bell

As I headed home Friday, just as dusk was settling in, and the heat of the day was finally beginning to subside, I heard the resonant tones of our Victory Bell proudly proclaiming a Falcon win.

What a beautiful sound!

After a tough game against arch-rival Ransom Everglades, our Falcons soundly defeated the Raiders, 18-6, reclaiming the Oar, fifteen years after losing it. Quite an accomplishment!

And, while I am certainly proud of all of our Varsity Football players, cheerleaders, and coaches, perhaps I am most proud of our amazing Community, and the incredible start we have had to this 2018-19 school year.
Each day, I am privileged to witness amazing "wins" as our faculty and staff guide our students. Thank you to them.

Across campus, every day, I see students meaningfully engaged, having fun, and truly enjoying their moments on our most beautiful grounds.

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of all of our Staff, we continue to maintain this "jewel", and the professionalism exuded across the board is unparalleled. Visitors to our campus remark how welcoming we are, and that just doesn't happen or exist anywhere!

As I walk around our track late in the day, I see our cross country teams practicing hard in the grueling sun. On the weekends, our volleyball team is also hard at work, and many of our soccer and basketball players are honing their skills in the off-season, spending countless hours here at School, as well.

To date, I have spent considerable time in 13 different classrooms, observing the outstanding leadership of our Faculty, and I am inspired by the discussions and daily lessons happening in both the Middle and Upper School classrooms. My goal is to spend time in every classroom this year, and I am truly grateful to all of the Faculty who have already hosted me, and I am looking forward to my future visits.

Our new Daily Schedule is also a resounding success, and our students are absolutely loving the new spaces, furniture, and outdoor cafe. So many parents commented to me at our Back-to-School Nights about how positive all of our changes have been, and there is a definite "buzz" around our School these days.

Also, our inaugural Community Board gathered for the first time last Friday, and all of those 16 Ambassadors were incredibly impressed with all the good work happening on our campus. One member, who had not visited since he graduated over a decade ago, actually called a friend to share just how amazed he was with our progress. Many of those folks stayed at our Pep Rally, as well, which, by the way, was the most spirited I have witnessed in some time here!

On another note, our Annual Fund and development efforts also seem to reflect a feeling of excitement, as we are tracking well ahead in terms of both dollars raised and giving percentages.

On Sunday, I had the opportunity to visit with a group of our Trinity Chapel donors, and, as you can imagine, there was much talk and excitement regarding our upcoming November 6th Groundbreaking.

Yes, we should be proud of who we are, and just where we stand as a Community.

I am a believer, that, as Ralph Waldo Emerson so simply states:

"The world belongs to the energetic."

I couldn't agree more.

Thank you for bringing your positive energy this first month, as we set the tone for what promises to be our best year yet.

While it is still too early to claim a full "victory" for the school year, we are certainly off to a great start, and we will continue to stay focused and ensure that we make the 2018-19 school year an outstanding one. I look forward to ringing the Victory Bell with you many more times in these coming months.

Go Falcons!
