Remi Bacardi '25 is one of Miami Herald’s Miami-Dade County Golfers of the Year.

Bacardi, a freshman at Palmer Trinity, made it to the 1A championship for the second straight season and came in 15th.

Bacardi is young enough to feel like she has time to keep improving and make a run at a gold of her own. "My goal is by the end of my high school career to at least finish second at state," Bacardi said.

Bacardi, who’s the daughter of Bacardi chairman Facundo L. Bacardi, started playing at 5 on a whim. The family belongs to Riviera Golf Course in Coral Gables and none of the other sports Bacardi tried were sticking, so she decided to give golf a shot.

It turned out pretty well. She has been a varsity player since she was in sixth grade and she made it to a state championship before she even began high school. “I just thought it was fun because it was just a really big game and it was longer, obviously, than any other sport,” Bacardi said. “I really loved all the aspects of it like the short game, the long game — I kind of liked how you had to use your mind for it.”
