Having lettered for four different varsity teams, serving for two years on Captain’s Circle, and having a predominant role in Falcon Fury, it is evident the impact Cailyn Sullivan has had on the Palmer Trinity Athletic Department.
Sullivan has played soccer and volleyball since entering PTS in 7th grade and began running track & field during 10th grade. As a junior, despite already competing in three varsity sports, Sullivan sought and received special approval to compete in cross country to help train and stay in shape for her winter and spring seasons, at the request of Head Coach Tammy King. “I was able to manage my four sports last year because I worked hard on my time management.” Whether it was finding time to get ahead on her homework, or doing cross country runs in the morning before school, Sullivan ensured everything stayed on track to excel not only athletically, but academically. In reflecting on her time, her advice to underclassmen is to always prioritize recovery to prevent injuries and to manage time well to balance grades and academic performance.
While it is clear that Sullivan loves athletics and competition, she acknowledges that it is her teammates that inspire her to keep training and pushing hard. She is adamant about making Palmer Trinity Athletics a positive experience for those around her. Sullivan has worked very hard along with other leaders in Falcon Fury on establishing a program to enhance school spirit for this year. “I truly believe that good school spirit is an opportunity for so much fun for everyone. It not only boosts athletic performance, but brings the school community together.” Sullivan is also thankful for the opportunity to serve as a member of Captain’s Circle and believes that positive changes are happening for the benefit of all student-athletes.
Sullivan describes her favorite memories as Dig Pink and Silent Nights as close games with lots of fans create high energy environments that are a lot of fun. This year, the Varsity Volleyball team welcomed back Head Coach William Gonzalez. Sullivan is pleased with the progress the team has made and the commitment the players have shown as the team buys into Coach Gonzalez’s vision. She believes that while he is a tough coach, the program will improve dramatically as a result of his love for the team and the sport. Coach Gonzalez is equally as high on Sullivan. “She is the ultimate leader, humble and fair,” Coach Gonzalez remarks, also noting how coachable she is and how her leadership translates off the court as well.
Despite all the time spent around athletics, Sullivan always makes time for friends and family and enjoys going to the beach and spending time outside while also staying active in the
Best Buddies and Falcons for a Cure clubs. Her favorite movie is Borat and favorite food is sushi. She is excited to study business in the future and hopes to attend either the University of Michigan or the University of Florida.
Be sure to come out and support Cailyn and the rest of the Varsity Volleyball team as they gear up for the District Tournament. Palmer Trinity will host Dig Pink Night on Thursday, October 5th with games at 3:00 pm, 4:00 pm, 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm, and 7:30 pm.
Go Falcons!
