Each day, like many of you, I sort through hundreds of emails, all the while trying to prioritize my communication, and hoping to respond in a timely and efficient manner. While some of those emails may often be challenging due to their prescriptive nature, very often I receive wonderful emails, praising our School and our efforts. Accordingly, as we find ourselves in the middle of February, a time in the year when the stress levels tend to rise, I share with you two thoughtful and notable "letters in the mail" I recently received.
Both letters speak to the outstanding work we are doing as a School and to the leadership of the individuals named. Please note that I have changed the names of the authors and students, but I sincerely hope you'll appreciate the sentiments. And so, sit back, relax, and join me in thanking the good work of these folks. Let us celebrate our collective efforts as a School, working to achieve the following Mission: Palmer Trinity School is an Episcopal school dedicated to promoting academic excellence and inspiring students to lead lives of Virtue, Humanity, and Spirit.
Letter #1
Patrick- hope this message finds you well. Wanted to drop you a quick note to shower accolades on Danny, Ashley, and their department.
Laurie, Steve, and I attended the Dean's Program last evening. As always, the experience was not only beneficial but caused a deeper awareness of just how awesome Danny and Ashley are and the impact they have on PTS’s reputation. I could wax poetic – but I have to get to work – so I will keep this brief (my version of brief):
Curated Experience/Attention to Detail:
The subtleties of detail are easy to overlook but are the canary’s that illustrate care and commitment to one's tradecraft.
Laurie and I have the benefit that Steve is 2nd in the batter’s box – this allowed us to relax in last evening's meeting providing space to “observe” and be fully present.
What we appreciated was the fact that Danny and Ashley curated a panel that consisted of a diverse spectrum of college experiences:
Large State School – Ole Miss Prestigious Private Institution – George Washington
All Women College – Barnard
Specialty Business School – Babson
Global College - Glasgow
The assembly of these schools was subtle – an attention to detail that may be overlooked by some – but clearly was executed with an intentionality of bringing range to parents/students.
Personal Relationships = PTS Reputation = Impact on Students:
The authentic personal relationships that Danny and Ashley have nurtured within the college community directly impacts the reputation of PTS, which then cascades on to our children.
It is clear that there is immense trust and genuine personal relationships with each of the Deans/Representatives. I have no doubt that these relationships have developed through an investment of time outside of normal working hours and over a long period of time. I am sure most of us parents are not aware of the time invested in establishing these relationships and how they impact our children during the all-so-critical college admissions time. It dawned on me that Danny, Ashley, and all in the college counseling department truly have a massive impact on the reputation of PTS with colleges. As parents, it made us feel both proud of PTS and grateful to Danny and Ashley.
The GW Dean communicated that she enjoys coming to PTS because she enjoys the authenticity of our students. I have a hunch she was speaking truthfully. How lucky are we to have established a reputation as not only a respected institution but also to be recognized by the quality of interactions with our student community.
To close – Danny, Ashley, and of course the College Counseling Team, you are rock stars. I'm incredibly grateful that you are part of our team! The subtleties of your planning, the nurturing of relationships, etc. do not go unnoticed. Thank you.
With Pride and Gratefulness – Go Falcons Life is good!
Letter #2
Good Afternoon Patrick,
I wanted to send a quick note to congratulate you and the PTS Faculty and Staff on the FCIS commendations. I know all too well the amount of time and energy it takes to prepare and welcome the accreditation team. It is not an easy feat.
I have three kids, all of whom attended three different schools. I can tell you after having Charles spend half a school year at Palmer Trinity, the school is truly interested in developing the whole child. I enjoyed our chat, particularly of the do's and don'ts of high school seniors and their college plans. Ha Ha!
Warm regards
_________
I sincerely hope you enjoyed both of these letters and will join me in my optimism for our School.
