Senior Spotlight: Emme Fundora

Baseball and softball have been a part of Emme Fundora’s life for as long as she can remember. The daughter of a baseball player, Fundora was encouraged by her father to start playing softball around the age of four. As an active and energetic child, Fundora was quickly hooked. When she’s not actively playing or practicing, her life still revolves around sports. One of her favorite things to do is to go to baseball games with her dad and attend spring training games each year. She has also volunteered at the Miami-Dade Miracle League where she helps to coach children with disabilities and give them the opportunity to play baseball.

The impact Fundora has had on the Varsity Softball team cannot be overstated. In her four years as a Falcon, Fundora has started the majority of games as a pitcher and has set school records in career wins (27 and counting), innings pitched in a season (99.1), and innings pitched in a career (248 and counting). Additionally, Fundora has really taken on a leadership role in her time here. In addition to her time serving as a member of Palmer Trinity’s Captain’s Circle, Fundora helps mentor the younger athletes on the team through talks and inspiration. As a result, Fundora believes the team has really bonded. “I think it helps that we all truly want to succeed and win, which creates a bond in itself,” Fundora mentions, “I remind the younger athletes that although our softball team can be seen as underdogs, it’s important we perform the way we have trained and prove to everyone what our team is all about.”

Looking back, Fundora calls her experience as a Falcon as unforgettable. “Not only have my skills improved, but I was able to become tougher mentally. Coach Cerda and my teammates rely on me, which has really helped push me to become a better player.” Coach Cerda is quick to note how dependable Fundora has been. “She is a smart player, especially on the mound, and is willing to grind and fight for every win,” Cerda notes. She also believes that Fundora sets the tone for the team and her willingness to be silly helps keep the dugout fun.

After graduation, Fundora’s time as a softball player will not come to an end as she plans on attending the University of Florida to study marketing and psychology while also playing on the club softball team. Additionally, she hopes to continue giving pitching lessons to younger athletes. “It’s really incredible to see little girls fall in love with softball the same way I did.”
