On Tuesday, May 15th, the 9th-grade class skyped with Dr. David Christian, founder, and director of the Big History Project, which examines humanity's place in the universe from the Big Bang to the present, and sets the history curriculum for freshman year.
On the night of Saturday, May 12th, the 8th Grade came together in the beautifully decorated Main Dining Room for the 8th Grade Dance. The theme of the dance was 8th Grade Takes On Hollywood. A great time was enjoyed by everyone that attended.
The weekend of April 29th through May 1st, the Palmer Trinibots, Palmer Trinity's rookie VEX IQ robotics team, took part in the VEX IQ Worlds Championship event. Over 400 middle school teams from 46 countries joined together in Louisville, Kentucky to compete in the Ringmaster Challenge, this year's robotics game.
Dr. Melissa A. Beske presented her anthropological work: "Engaging Anthropology: Combating Gender-Based Violence in Belize" to students in Women Studies. Dr. Beske's research work and dissertation resulted in the publication of the book "Intimate Partner Violence and Advocate Response: Redefining Love in Western Belize."
This morning over 50 PTS parents joined our community to hear from the doctors at South Florida Integrative Medicine about the dangerous teen trend of E-Cigarettes. The doctors stated that E-Cigarettes are linked to brain dysfunction, lung disease and problems with reproduction. Juuling, a dangerous form of vaping, was also discussed.
The PTS Model United Nations organization will be conducting its Inaugural Miami Model UN Conference (MIAMUN) this Friday and Saturday, April 27th and 28th, here on campus. Over 40 Upper School Chairs/Delegates and MS volunteers will be participating.
PTS Junior Marie Alencar and freshman Juliana Cueva had drawings accepted into a juried show as part of a local Rotary club fundraising event. Their pieces will be displayed during the pre-show gala at the Black Jacket Symphony Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band Concert on Saturday, April 28th, at the South Miami-Dade Cultural Art Center.
PTS students Pilar Calvoz Cordon, Juliana Cueva, Grant Kleber, Dylan Johnson, and Morgan Powell came in 5th place for the designing and defending their Scientific Poster for the Fairchild Growing Beyond Earth Challenge on Saturday, April 21st.
They defended their original research in front of NASA, Fairchild, and FIU scientists. They had the only poster with a statistical analysis allowing them to accept or reject their hypothesis.
