AP Human Geography Field Trip Explores Miami's Investments in Transportation, Cultural Landscape and Climate Gentrification

Students in Mrs. Massa's AP Human Geography class participated in a field trip to learn about our city's latest investments in urban and regional transportation.

They visited Brightline Central Station where they conducted interviews and practiced participant observation techniques.

After, they walked around the Central Business District and rode on the Metromover to visually identify the urban changes occurring.

The trip concluded in Little Haiti, where they explored the most iconic places of this cultural landscape and learned about its history and rich culture with a visit to a Botanica, a small store that sells remedies, charms, incense/candles, and other items used for spiritual purposes.

Students witnessed the process of urban abandonment as the city heads toward a process of climate gentrification with challenging consequences for its diasporic community.
