Poets and Fifth Presidential Inaugural Poet Richard Blanco visit Palmer Trinity School

On Monday, April 3, Palmer Trinity organized a Poetry Convocation to kick off National Poetry Month.
Congratulations to 10th grader Joey Sabga and 7th grader Mia Archambault, winners of PTS' Poetry Contest.
Congratulations are also in order to 9th grader Jojo Jimenez and 7th grader Emilia Ramos, who earned honorable mentions for their poetry.
The convocation focused on readings by student Gabe Charur and winners of the school’s poetry contest, and guest poets:
Caridad Moro-Gronlier, author of 'Tortillera: Poems'. Moro-Gronlier is a community-driven South Florida poet whose literary engagement includes writing workshops and public readings in partnership with local stakeholders. In 2021 she was among a select group of Miami poets chosen to be part of the "O, Miami Remembrance to Order Project."
Nicole Tallman serves as the Poetry Ambassador for Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, a position she has held since April 2021. In this role, Nicole created the County's very-first Poet Laureate program and works alongside the Poet Laureate to celebrate and elevate poetry and poets, connect community, and promote literacy and learning. Nicole is the author of three poetry collections.
Richard Blanco was selected by President Obama in 2012 as the fifth Presidential Inaugural Poet in U.S. history and was the youngest, the first Hispanic, immigrant, and gay person to serve in such a role.
Born in Madrid to Cuban exile parents and raised in Miami, cultural identity characterizes his many collections of award-winning poetry, including his most recent, "How to Love a Country."
