Palmer Trinity welcomed back alumnus Jean-Pierre “J.P.” Gilbert who spoke to students about Martin Luther King Jr, the civil rights movement, and his own role as a public defense attorney.
J.P., who graduated from PTS in 2007, shared about creating a citizen-run police review board in Central Florida to hold law enforcement more accountable. He was inspired when an officer in Longwood pressured a teen into a false confession after confusing him for another car that ran a stop sign.
Today, J.P. serves as Assistant Federal Public Defendant for the Southern District of Florida.
