PTS Celebrates Light: Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Advent

This year, Palmer Trinity had the opportunity to host Lessons and Carols chapels throughout December.

This time of year features several holidays that celebrate light: Hanukkah, Advent and Kwanzaa. To observe these different traditions, Palmer Trinity students and faculty participated in readings and lighting of candles.

Hanukkah is a time to celebrate the miracle of light and the essential gift of freedom. Escaping violence and destruction, the Maccabees are able to find new life in safety.

Kwanzaa is a time to recognize the profound gift of tradition. All are grateful for the harvests that enrich our lives and nourish us. With light and gratefulness we celebrate this time of gathering the crops and also gathering as a community.

Advent is a time of preparation and waiting for the Light. For Christians, Advent ushers in the new church year with the birth of Jesus, the Christ. One candle is lit each week, on the four Sundays before December 25, to mark the coming of the Messiah in vulnerability and hope.
