SWENext Club Spotlight

SWENext Clubs all over the world have made incredible accomplishments in spreading their passion for STEM and inspiring the next generation of engineers. All of this work may not have been possible without the support of their counselors! Palmer Trinity SWENext is based in Miami, Florida and has members in grades 7-12. They are a relatively new club–they were founded in August 2020. The club was started up by their counselor, Susy Chu. Ms. Chu has a strong background in STEM education and SWENext. When she began teaching at Palmer Trinity this past year, her experience and passion for STEM inspired her to create the school’s SWENext club! Her vision was to promote STEM education for all, especially for female students.

Even though Palmer Trinity SWENext is a new club, they’ve already successfully hosted events! On October 20th of this past year, they hosted a virtual “Girl Powered” event in celebration of International Day of the Girl. The main purpose of this event was to show middle and high school students the exciting aspects of STEM and robotics. During the event, Palmer Trinity SWENext successfully showcased examples of women in STEM, provided tips & tools for a successful career, and created a welcoming environment during the event that accommodated different skill levels. In addition to hosting this event, Palmer Trinity SWENext also holds regular webinars with engineering guest speakers. They even got to chat with astronauts during one of these webinars! On top of all of this, they also participate in engineering competitions and frequently engage with college students and professionals.

Palmer Trinity SWENext has had a strong start because of its passionate members and supportive counselor! They’ve already made a wonderful impact on their STEM community, and they will only continue to grow!
