Celebrating Chinese New Year at Palmer Trinity School

On behalf of all our Chinese program students and all our students from China, we're wishing everyone, 新年快乐.
This year we held a virtual Lunar Year Convocation to learn more about Chinese Culture and  traditions. Students learning Mandarin Chinese shared videos on language, recipes and music.

As part of our celebration of the Year of the Ox, the Visual Arts Department announced the winner of this year's Chinese New Year Card Design Contest, Xinmeng Yu '22.

Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival or Lunar New Year, is the grandest festival in China, with a 7-day long holiday. As the most colorful annual event, the traditional  celebration lasts longer, up to two weeks, and the climax arrives around the Lunar New Year's Eve.

The Lunar Calendar follows the cycles of the moon. It is used to determine holidays that are celebrated in China that trace their cultures to ancient Chinese history. Farmers in many parts of the country are still using the lunar calendar to plan when to put the seeds in the ground for optimal harvests, based on the dates that are considered lucky, couples plan their weddings and millions around the world planned financial decisions big and small.

Once every year at the beginning of Chinese New Year, the nian comes out
Happy New Year in Mandarin Chinese is xin nian kuai le.

On behalf of all our Chinese program students and all the students from China, we're wishing everyone, 新年快乐.
