Palmer Trinity Hosts Meeting Of The South Florida Learning Support Association

The South Florida Learning Support Association (SFLSA) is a consortium of professionals from NAIS and FCIS member schools who share their collective wisdom, experience, and passion through collaboration, networking, professional development, and mutual support.

On Tuesday, October 29, thirty-five Learning Specialists from fourteen Florida independent schools arrived on the Palmer Trinity Campus for their Fall meeting. They had round-table discussions and shared ideas about identifying students with specific learning needs, strategies for differentiating instruction, establishing policies for testing and accommodations, and navigating the changing College Board and ACT procedures and requirements. Many in attendance agreed that networking with professionals in other NAIS and FCIS schools is invaluable in improving learning programs in our individual schools. As one attendee put it, “I loved the two sessions and all the networking time in between.” Another participant stated, “We gained so much insight from the discussions regarding policy.”

Beth Nottman, director of the Upper School Learning Lab at St. Andrew’s School in Boca Raton, and a founding member of SFLSA, created a website for the group through which members are informed about professional development and opportunities for collaboration.
