Senior Spotlight: Ezequiel Cutin

Ezequiel Cutin still remembers the moment vividly. Despite only being a sophomore on a team filled with upperclassmen, Cutin was a vital piece of the 2017-2018 Palmer Trinity Varsity Soccer team that was playing in the FHSAA State Final. With the Falcons trailing 1-0 in the 59th minute, he watched from just outside the 18-yard line as his long distance strike soared through the air and curled into the upper-ninety corner of the net. Tie game. “At the moment, I didn’t even realize how nice the goal was,” Cutin recalls, “I was just happy to have contributed to helping the team have a chance to win the game”. The Falcons ended up winning 2-1 in double OT, giving Palmer Trinity its first state championship in school history.

Flash forward two years and Cutin is now one of those upperclassman, serving as a captain during his senior year, as the Falcons try to win a third straight state championship after repeating in 2018-2019. “I’ve matured a lot as a soccer player since the first state championship and have definitely grown as a leader,” Cutin mentions. Head Coach Eric Perri describes Cutin as “a hard-worker, every day both in practices and in games. He maintains the leadership abilities necessary to be an effective team leader and captain”. Coach Perri also mentions that the growth Cutin has shown since his sophomore year, especially within his knowledge of the game.

Despite numerous new faces to the team, Cutin expects the team to once again compete for a state championship. He believes his younger teammates will soon learn that hard-work on the practice fields will lead to success on game day and he looks forward to taking on the responsibility of motivating them every day, similar to how the seniors did for him in 2017.

Cutin also excels in the classroom, enrolling in a very demanding course-load and has done an admirable job balancing school and extracurricular activities while maintaining high marks and test scores. Cutin plans to pursue a degree in computer science and is considering universities around the country, including Duke University, Northeastern University, University of Miami, University of Michigan, Tulane University, University of Florida, Georgia Tech, and more.

Outside of Palmer Trinity, Ezequiel plays on the Coral Estate Strikers club soccer team in which he won the 2018 Florida Cup and was the runner-up for the State Cup. He is also an asset to the community, attempting to aid underserved communities. His recalls his trip to South Dakota to help build houses for the Sioux Tribe as his most memorable and rewarding volunteer experience.

At home, you can find Cutin listening to and analyzing music, one of his favorite hobbies. He notes The Beatles as his favorite band growing up. Among his favorites also include The Brothers of Grimsby as his favorite movie and his favorite food is Argentinian steak.

Be sure to come out and support Ezequiel and the rest of the Varsity Boys Soccer team in their quest for a third consecutive state championship. The Falcons open the regular season at home on November 11th at 4:00 pm when they host Westminster Christian.
