Students Thrive in New Innovation Spaces

This academic year featured the opening of three innovation spaces: two classrooms and a garage leveraged into workshops for students to design, build, research, and express themselves. Both Middle School and Upper School have their own space, and The Garage accommodates larger projects such as a student-led solar car experiment called "The Apollo Project".

“Students are so excited about the space that they are finding opportunities outside of academic time to go in. So far, it's been an amazing thing to watch their excitement as well as the excitement of the faculty who have taken their students to the space. This is only the beginning of something great!" said Peter Tolmach, Head of Middle School.

Outfitted with various supplies and equipment for hands-on learning, the innovation spaces are designed for students to utilize and expand on the skills they already have.

“Here, they’re more inclined to control their own learning, and they find it fun,” said Brian Diaz, Innovation Coordinator. Diaz forms part of the faculty that developed the vision for a “maker’s movement.”

He added, “It’s our hope that this approach to creativity and independent learning permeates throughout campus, allowing each student to further their skill sets as they move to the next phase of their lives.”
