Digging For Artifacts In ESOL World History Class

In Ms. Fernandez's ESOL World History class, students have been studying the differences and similarities between the roles of the Historian and Archaeologist, and how the two work together. Today, the students had an actual archaeological dig, and thanks to Mr. Mealey and Mr. Moorehouse, Ms. Fernandez was able to acquire pieces of pottery, old coins, bones, and fossils to bury in the dirt. The students used tools provided by Mr. Moorehouse and Mr. Berguiristain to dig up the artifacts. Then, in their groups, they will write up a report to present their findings. This lesson incorporates different modalities which allow the student to experience the lesson in various ways and at the same time learn the English language.
