Welcome back...almost!

I know it's hard to believe, but the opening of the 2017-18 academic year is upon us. This year marks our 45th anniversary and promises to be a great one. Hopefully, you have enjoyed a relaxing summer and a good moment or two to disconnect from School. For us, it has been a busy and productive nine weeks.

As we begin the month of August and prepare for Opening Day on Wednesday, August 16th, I share just a few noteworthy highlights and say thank you to all of our Staff for the good work accomplished this summer.
We are extremely proud of the great work happening in Admissions, and plan to open the 2017-18 school year with 774 students, an all-time high. Thanks to the efforts of the Admissions Team, we continue to enroll "mission appropriate" students and families, and we are already processing applications for next year, as the "buzz" around our School continues to grow.

Led by Paul Zamek, Art Beguiristain and our entire Maintenance Team, we are in the process of applying some "spit and polish" to classrooms, hallways, and the grounds. In addition, thanks to the hard work of Gus Sabogal and our Tech Team, we have upgraded our security measures.  We also continue to "plow ahead" with the work on the South Campus, and are now "officially" at the stage of beginning the construction of the Classroom Building.

You will probably also notice that much work has been done on the Main Athletic Field since you were last on campus. Preparations for the "official" opening of that Field are underway. We will play the Inaugural Game on Friday, September 15th, which will also be our Homecoming.  Do mark your calendars and plan to be here, as it will be quite a celebration.

Earlier this summer, on July 1st, we announced the completion of our most successful Annual Fund campaign in School history. Thanks to the hard work of our entire Development Team, led so capably by Juan Gomez, our Annual Fund reached new heights in terms of both dollars raised and percentages of giving, eclipsing our records from last year. Reaching nearly $950k, and hitting a parents' participation mark of 85%, we truly have "set the bar" incredibly high.  It should also be noted that our Alumni giving set a record as well, raising $84k. Needless to say, we are proud of these efforts and believe our momentum is strong.

Special thanks, too, goes to our Diversity Coordinators, Ashley Armato and Aldo Regalado (the A Team), for leading the discussions and good work in updating and crafting our MOSAIC Program.

In our summer travel news, the reports from both our Blue Missions group, led by Ashley Armato and our third South Dakota Lakota experience, led by Mike Iglesias were also quite positive. Our summer programs also kept us quite busy, as we had more students involved and more offerings this year.

As has been our tradition, Breakthrough Miami just completed their successful summer work as well, capping their six-week program with a big party last Friday night. One hundred Breakthrough Scholars had the opportunity this Summer to enjoy our beautiful campus while they studied and played. We continue to be proud of our partnership with Breakthrough Miami.

On a personal note, as many of you already know, Laura, Cook, Hagan, John Patrick, Katherine Anne and I moved "just around the corner", into the property the School purchased this past year. We are still settling in, and have a few boxes left to unpack, but are truly looking forward to hosting all of you very soon. Stay tuned, as plans are underway for a Holiday Gathering in December.

Thank you for your continued commitment to Palmer Trinity School, and I look forward to seeing all of our students at our Opening Chapel on August 16th.

As is my "tradition", here's the first quotation for the year, which I am planning to share with our Seniors on Tuesday, August 15th:

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”
---Ralph Waldo Emerson
