FIU Professor of Political Science Discusses Peace Process in Colombia

On Tuesday, March 14th, Dr. Eduardo Gamarra, professor of Political Science and International Relations at FIU, gave an outstanding presentation on the peace process in Colombia to our students in Latin American History Honors course. Dr. Gamarra presented the historical framework of the armed conflict and the intricacies of the social actors involved. He highlighted the past attempts to achieve peace and the current efforts to put an end to more than fifty years of violence. Under the auspices of FIU, he led several focus groups conducted in seven Colombian cities, gauging sentiment about the peace process and attitudes about Colombian political actors and institutions. Our students could appreciate the crucial role that social scientists play in applying research to study social problems.
