Alumni Mentoring Program

The Alumni Association is thrilled to announce the launch of the Alumni Mentor Program.  Though the students at Palmer Trinity receive an exceptional education filled with hands-on learning experiences, it is just as important for them to build relationships with people in the community who can inspire and guide them as they explore career options for their future.  The goal of the PTS Alumni Mentor program is to connect current students and recent graduates to successful alumni professionals in order to provide opportunities to learn and grow as young adults preparing for a career.  
Alumni, current parents, and other members of the Palmer Trinity community are invited to participate in this program. There are different ways one can serve as a mentor. We invite you to consider becoming a mentor to our students in one of the following ways:
 
  • Guest Speaker:  Professionals are invited to be a guest speaker in classes related to their careers.  This is a great way for students to learn about career options within the various subject areas offered to them at PTS.  Speakers should come prepared with a 30-45 minute presentation for the students. Click here to see some presentation suggestions.  Guest speaker visits to Palmer Trinity will be coordinated by the alumni director contingent on the availability of the speaker and the appropriate teacher(s).

  • Collegiate Mentor:  This program is designed to connect recent graduates of Palmer Trinity who are studying in college with current seniors who are in the process of applying to college. Collegiate Mentors should sign up no later than September 1st.  The role of the Collegiate Mentor is to guide their mentee through the college application process, offer advice when choosing a college, and answer any questions the mentee may have about transitioning to college.  All Collegiate Mentors will be invited to College Day at Palmer Trinity School in early January to connect with the current seniors and have lunch with their mentee. 

  • Summer Internship Host:  This program is designed for Palmer Trinity juniors and seniors, and recent graduates to be exposed to a work environment and to learn “while on the job.”  Internships opportunities can be offered to students for 1-4 weeks during the summer months.  Internship hosts must register no later than April 15th in order to be paired with a student intern before the “Mentor Intern Meet and Greet” in the late spring.  Intern hosts are encouraged to follow the “Four M’s” while working with their intern:

    • MOBILIZE:
      •  Create opportunities for the Intern to “get working”
      •  Establish a work schedule
      •  Assign tasks and projects with deadlines
      •  Explain company policies to the intern to ensure compliance
      •  Provide a workspace and the tools needed for the intern

    • MONITOR
      •  Maintain open communication with the intern regarding their progress
      •  Provide the intern with constant feedback about their work

    • MENTOR
      •  Talk to the intern about your career
      •  Answer questions that the intern may have about the profession
      •  Give work-related advice
      •  Share your own professional journey with the intern
      •  Maintain a professional relationship with the intern at all times
    • MOTIVATE
      •  Encourage the intern to work hard and accomplish their goals
      •  Provide reassurance for good work and constructive criticism when necessary.
