Congratulations to the Middle School Track and Field Team
Congratulations to our Middle School Girls and Boys Team for being the largest number of qualifiers and the extraordinary personal efforts combined to make a strong team.
On the Boys' side, the team made history and won the School Team Trophy as the FLYRA Middle School Boys Team State Champions with 35 total team points, and matched up with a Club team named Miami Gardens Express who won Boys Club Team Title. The team was led by Austin Foster, who won an individual State Championship in the 800m -2:04.98; 2nd place in the Discus with a personal best of 142'3", and fourth place medal in the 1500m - 4:31.92. - 26 points. Teammate Luca Martinez won a seventh-place medal in the long jump with a jump of 19'0 feet; and then an 8th place medal in the triple jump -37'0.50 meter; which is a season's best. This gives him 7 total points. Corbin Berg had a major personal best in the javelin. He placed 12th overall and brought in 2 school-team points. The Boys 4x800m ran 10:23 - team members were Eddie del Rosal (2:23), Daniel Arias (2:30), Thomas Hudson (2:40), and Henry Stark (2:47).
On the girls' team, there were so many strong performances led by Amaia Vadillo in the long jump (14'9.50"). Amaia placed 16th overall and scored 3 team points. The 4x800m relay team had a season's best, placing fifth in the second heat with a time of 11:04 - team members were Julia Carbajales (2:41), Simone Schwedel (2:43), Sarah Bayas (2:50), and Katarina Pena (2:48). This finish is 18th in the State of Florida. The 4x400m relay team won the first heat with a season best of 4:33.74 - team members are Emily Montes (1:03), Simone Schwedel (1:08), Katarina Pena (1:09), and Isabella Westgate (1:10). Gaby Pena placed 6th in the first flight of triple jump with a mark of 29'5.50". Helena Rodriguez placed 13th in the second flight in Turbo javelin with a throw of 38'0; Sarah Bayas threw 73'2" in the discus and Emily Montes threw 29'1.75" in the shot put.
