About Summer Reading

The aim of the summer reading program is to introduce students to books that are diverse in topic and genre, substantive, and enjoyable.  By selecting such texts, we hope to foster a life-long habit of reading in all of our students.  So students can see that reading is a dynamic, rich experience, we have created a reading list that extends across disciplines, includes a variety of genres and levels of complexity, and balances the traditional classics with the most contemporary authors.

All students will read at least two books. Some grades have one REQUIRED book and all grades have a CHOICE list. The summer reading book list is designed to accommodate a range of interests; it includes a variety of genres, topics, and levels of complexity.  We are sure there is something for everyone on the list.
